Ewww...You better get your vaccinations updated before playing that thing
Probably too much fret board conditioner in a dusty environment

It's been years, but I had a steady client who didn't clean anything. He brought in his ES-175 once complaining of fret rattle. The finger funk had built up so high between the frets it was choking out the strings! It looked like mud packed on the fingerboard. He told me he left his guitar at the club all the time, and couldn't see the dirt. Took quite awhile to soak that stuff with warm soapy water before it would scrape off. I charged him double.

I'd glove up before I went after that mess.

Oh yes! Love that one..... see a version of it every few months. My favorite though is always the dead critter in the guitar.

Sounds like a joke, but it's not to us old hands who've actually removed said critter.
New question... Ever removed a LIVE critter?

Never had ants. Seen plenty of cases full of dog hair and cat hair in my time. Maybe they had fleas?

Vacuum out cases all the time - lots of pet hair. Sometimes I think player's cats jump in the case to play or something.

From the number of pics I've seen with cats sleeping in cases, they must be pretty comfy for the felines.

Having a shop cat, you learn to immediately close any case!

So you've seen my mystery resonator - the rattle was a decade of mouse turds.
